Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Tukad Cepung Waterfall is one of the unique natural attractions of Bali. It is located almost in the central part of the island, in the Bangli region, in the village of Penida Kelod. Its peculiarity is that it is hidden in a gorge among the rocks, creating the impression of a mysterious and secluded place.
Height and Setting

The waterfall measures about 15 meters in height, with water plunging in a single stream from an outcrop into a narrow fissure between rocky walls. It can look as if the water is flowing straight from the sky. At the base, the flow forms a crystal-clear pool that’s perfect for swimming. In the morning, the water is refreshingly cool, while by midday it warms up to a pleasant temperature.

The Descent to the Waterfall

Reaching the falls is a mini-adventure in itself. The trail starts off winding through a dense tropical forest. For about 10–15 minutes, you’ll pass moss-covered stones, ferns, and vines while listening to the sound of rushing water. Then the descent begins: first on concrete steps, then bamboo ones, and at times you’ll clamber over boulders in a narrow passage between cliffs. In total, there are more than 100 steps. At certain points, the gap between the rock walls is less than a meter wide. In dry weather, the path is relatively easy, but it can become slippery after rain.

At the end of the trail, you’ll have to walk a few steps through shallow water to reach the foot of the falls. The view that unfolds is stunning: the water crashes loudly into the pool, and sunbeams filtering through gaps in the rocks create mesmerizing light effects.

Surroundings

Exploring at the foot of the waterfall feels like a scene from an adventure movie: mossy rocks, tangled vines, and lush greenery all around. A small cave with a shrine inside lends a sense of mystery.

If you follow the path leading away from the waterfall, you’ll enter a jungle of towering trees whose canopies vanish into the clouds.

Above, before you begin the descent, you’ll find pavilions and small shops where you can grab a snack or a refreshing drink. For a proper meal, you can head to one of the warungs closer to the parking area.

This place gained particular popularity after 2015, when American actress and model Sara Underwood visited. Her Instagram posts featuring the waterfall caught the attention of thousands of tourists.
