Banyumala Waterfall
Banyumala Falls, also known as Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, is a peaceful natural retreat in the center of northern Bali. It is located in the village of Wanagiri in Buleleng district, away from the busy resorts of the southern and northern coasts.
The name of the Banyumala waterfall comes from the words “banyu” - “water” and “mala” - “sins”. Translated from Indonesian, this means that bathing in its waters can cleanse the soul of sins and bad influences.
Appearance
Banyumala is a cascading waterfall about 40 meters high. Its uniqueness lies in its two main constant flows, which is why it is called the “twin waterfall.” During the rainy season, additional jets appear, enhancing its beauty. Externally, the place resembles a closed bowl: it is surrounded on all sides by steep cliffs covered with dense tropical vegetation.
At the foot of the waterfall there is a natural pool of almost perfect circular shape with a diameter of about 20 meters. Its clear water, transparent to the very bottom, creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere. This place is ideal for meditation, yoga or just relaxing.
Road to the waterfall
The path to Banyumala begins at the Banyumala Twin Waterfalls sign, which leads from the paved road onto a narrow dirt road. The length of this section is about 3-4 kilometers. The road consists of two strips of tiles laid directly into the ground, which helps maintain minimal traffic. However, due to its narrowness, it is difficult for cars to pass, but on foot or on a scooter this path is easier.
At the entrance to the complex there is a ticket office where a small entrance fee is collected. There are also shops where you can buy water or snacks. After this, you will have to overcome a 15-minute descent along a steep path with bamboo railings and earthen steps. During the rainy season, this area becomes slippery, so it is better to have comfortable shoes.
Facilities and surroundings
On the banks of the waterfall there are gazebos, benches and viewing platforms from which you can see all the streams. In the pool at the foot you can swim or just enjoy the coolness. The water may be cool in the morning, but later becomes comfortable for swimming. A stream flows from the pool, along which it is pleasant to walk. There are bamboo bridges across the stream, and in some places there are improvised boardwalks.
On the shores you will find:
• cairns created by visitors;
• a Hindu idol, reminiscent of the sacred nature of this place;
• rocks covered with dense vegetation, creating the effect of “green tiles”.

On the way to the waterfall you can meet funny monkeys who will gladly accept a treat of fruits or sweets. These animals add an atmosphere of live communication with nature, although sometimes their behavior can be very persistent.
