Nung Nung Waterfall

Nung Nung Waterfall

Nungnung Waterfall (Air Terjun Nungnung) is deservedly included in the list of the most beautiful places in Bali. Its main feature is the incredible power and abundance of water, which crashes down from a height of 50 meters with a roar. This makes it one of the most impressive waterfalls on the island. In height it is second only to the famous Sekumpul waterfall in northern Bali.
The entrance to Nungnung Falls begins at the characteristic Balinese cut gate, beyond which begins a long walking trail of 485 steps. They differ in size: at first the path is gentle, the steps are long and low, but closer to the waterfall the stairs become steeper and the steps are higher. This trip can be challenging for those without good physical fitness, so be sure to consider your strengths before visiting.

Path to the waterfall

The descent takes about 15 minutes. The trail passes through dense jungle, where already at the first steps you can hear the distant sound of water. The landscapes along the route amaze with their vibrant tropical greenery. The road descends into a gorge where streams flow down the walls and a small waterfall called Nungnung Jr. flows into the river. This natural setting creates an atmosphere of anticipation of something grandiose.

When you reach the end of the trail, a stunning picture opens up before you: a powerful stream of water falls from a height of about 50 meters, creating a cloud of water spray. The air here is saturated with moisture, and the silver streams of water against the backdrop of lush greenery seem mesmerizing. The waterfall looks especially beautiful at noon, when the sun's rays play with drops of water, creating a rainbow.

Bathing and safety

At the foot of the waterfall there is a small lake where you can swim. However, standing under the jets of the waterfall is highly not recommended: the flow is too powerful, and stones can sometimes fall off from above. It's better to swim from a distance. Please note that the water in the lake is muddy due to the muddy bottom, so locals prefer to swim in the nearby river.

What makes Nungnung special?

• This is one of the most photogenic waterfalls in Bali, ideal for photographs and even wedding ceremonies.

• There are no crowds of tourists here, and thanks to this you can enjoy nature in a calm environment.

• There are benches and gazebos along the way where you can rest both before the descent and on the way back.
